Brand Bio: Us Vs Them

"When we create designs for our clothing, we try to make sure even the simplest idea has a depth and meaning behind it.  Tee shirts are one of the most effective platforms to convey an idea.  We like creating graphics and designs that not only look good but convey some sort of attitude or message."

Us Versus Them was born in 2007 as an outlet for the creative ideas that were springing up out of the seminal Southern California boutique and art gallery, Versus. Combining the various artistic styles and cultural influences that flowed into the shop from a collective of creative artists, designer Graham Nystrom created a visual language for UVT that had not yet been seen in other companies.

Strong branding mixed with deep sociopolitical messages and a healthy dose of sarcasm set the brand apart and quickly amassed an intensely loyal following. While speaking out against the exploitation of subcultures by the marketing industry, hypocracy, ignorance, abuses of power and disenfranchisement, UVT promotes self empowerment, independent thought and respect to everyone. The brand boasts a demographic of followers that is as diverse as the world itself.

The main strength of Us Versus Them lies in the fact that the brand's message of individuality and empowerment speaks across all youth subcultures.  Coming from three distinct but interconnected backgrounds, co-oweners James Banuelos, Mike Glory and Graham Nystrom spent their formative years existing in and contributing to these various realms.  It shows when you look at the cultural luminaries from all corners that are fans and supporters of UVT.  From the skate, cycling and surf scenes to the political, graffiti, street, music and art worlds to the resurgent motor culture, the name resonates with a carried respect and authenticity.

One only has to look at the list of artists, fellow companies and groups that UVT has worked on projects with to get a feeling for where it stands.
